A Kenyan TikToker known as Official Barki has sparked discussion online after claiming to have bought a Lexus LX 570 SUV as a gift for President William Ruto.
In a video posted on TikTok, Barki is seen inside the luxury vehicle addressing the president directly. He describes the car’s features and states that the purchase is a token of appreciation for Ruto's leadership and service to Kenya.
"Your Excellency, I have already bought this Lexus LX 570 for you," Barki says in the clip, adding, "Very soon, it's coming to State House."
However, Barki’s comment about providing vehicles for the 2027 political campaigns raised questions among viewers about whether the gesture is purely generous or also a promotional move for his car dealership business.
Market Value and Popularity of the Lexus LX 570
TUKO.co.ke consulted Nairobi car dealer Denis Kimanthi, who estimates that a Lexus LX 570 in Kenya costs between KSh 12 million and KSh 15 million, depending on specifications.
Kimanthi explained the model’s appeal in high-profile circles, including presidential motorcades, noting its combination of luxury, comfort, and commanding road presence. He also highlighted that President Ruto owns several Lexus models, including newer versions like the LX 600.
Public Reaction
The gesture received mixed reactions on social media. Some Kenyans questioned the wisdom of gifting an expensive vehicle to a sitting president, suggesting the funds could be better used to support vulnerable communities.
