President William Ruto has extended congratulations to Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema following his successful re-election on August 13, 2026.
Hichilema secured a second five-year term by winning 60% of the vote, surpassing the required majority to avoid a runoff, according to Zambia’s electoral commission. His nearest rival, Brian Mundubile, garnered 28% of the votes.
In his congratulatory message, President Ruto acknowledged the confidence Zambian voters placed in Hichilema’s leadership and highlighted Kenya’s recognition of his efforts towards national development and prosperity.
"On behalf of the Government and people of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I warmly congratulate you and the people of Zambia on the successful election and your re-election as President," Ruto stated.
The Kenyan leader described Zambia as both a brotherly nation and a key regional partner, emphasizing the longstanding cooperation between the two countries on bilateral and multilateral fronts.
President Ruto expressed his eagerness to continue working with Hichilema to enhance the bonds of friendship and collaboration, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as trade, security, and development.
"I look forward to further solidifying and broadening our cooperation," Ruto added.
He also wished Hichilema success in his new term and hoped for continued peace, unity, and prosperity for the Zambian people.
