Isaac Kalembe Biromaiso Akiiki, the last speaker of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Parliament, passed away early Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his home in Kampala following a prolonged struggle with diabetes.

The Kingdom's Prime Minister, Andrew Byakutaga, confirmed Kalembe's death, noting that although he had been discharged from hospital and was expected to return later this month, he suffered a sudden relapse that led to his passing.

Kalembe's Contributions to Bunyoro Kitara

Kalembe served as speaker of the Rukurato, the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Parliament, from October 2018 until October 2023. Beyond his parliamentary duties, he was a respected historian and author, notably of the book Omukama Cwa II Kabaleega: A Life and Legacy, 1853–1923, which explores the legacy of the Bunyoro kingdom.

Before retiring, he also worked in the Public Relations and library departments of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
