Kenya Police Bullets Triumph Over Simba Queens in CECAFA Qualifier Opener
Kenya Police Bullets secured a 2-1 win against Simba Queens in the CECAFA qualifiers, boosting their hopes for CAF Women's Champions League qualification.
Kenya Police Bullets FC kicked off their CECAFA qualifiers campaign on a winning note with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania's Simba Queens in a gripping Group A match held in Kigali.
The Kenyan champions, eager to improve on last season's near miss for the CAF Women's Champions League, dominated early proceedings. Faith Moraa opened the scoring in the 14th minute after a precise assist from Terezah Engesha.
Despite several close attempts by Kenya Police to extend their lead, Simba Queens gradually found their rhythm. The Tanzanian side threatened through Aisha Mnunka and Vivian Corazone, who twice came close to leveling the score before halftime.
The second half saw increased urgency from both teams. Simba Queens' persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Senaf Demise scored to equalize.
However, Kenya Police Bullets responded swiftly. With 10 minutes remaining, Martha Amnyolete delivered a stunning finish that restored the lead and ultimately secured the win.
The victory places Kenya Police in a favorable position ahead of their next group match against Burundi's Top Girls Academy. Maintaining focus will be key as they aim to advance to the semi-finals and make a deeper run in this year's tournament.
