George N. Mathu, a 20-year-old Kenyan living in Alabama, tragically lost his life in a car accident on August 14, 2026. The crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. on Interstate 459 in Vestavia Hills as he was commuting to work.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, George's vehicle veered off the interstate, overturned, and caught fire. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Remembering George Mathu

George graduated from Thompson High School in 2024 and was known for his humility, dedication, and kindness. He was actively involved in his community, serving as an altar boy at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and participating in Jumuiya Juniors Alabama, a group uniting young Kenyans in the state.

His sudden death has deeply affected his family, including his parents, John and Josephine Mathu, and his four siblings.
