Charlton Athletic Boss Cites Visa Issues for Timothy Ouma's Delayed Debut
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones reveals visa complications and fitness buildup as reasons why Timothy Ouma has yet to feature this season.
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has explained why Kenyan midfielder Timothy Ouma has not yet made his competitive debut for the club this season.
Ouma, who joined Charlton Athletic on loan from Slavia Prague with a potential permanent move next season, has been absent from the first team due to a combination of visa delays and fitness concerns.
Visa Delays and Fitness Build-Up
Jones revealed that Ouma's return from Kenya was postponed because of visa complications, which caused him to miss much of Charlton's pre-season preparations. The manager emphasized the difference in intensity between under-21 matches and Championship fixtures, noting that Ouma recently played for the club's U21 side but is still being carefully integrated into the senior squad.
"Ouma was fine the other day in the U21s. The intensity of a Championship fixture and an U21s fixture are vastly different. He has hardly trained, he had visa issues early on. That wait prolonged us from being able to bring him back over from Kenya, so he has missed a lot of pre-season, and we are building him up, it is a work in progress," Jones said.
Recent Matches and Squad Updates
Ouma missed Charlton's 2-1 Championship victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, where goals from Lloyd Jones and Tyreece Campbell secured the win. Meanwhile, fellow Kenyan international Collins Sichenje was part of the traveling squad and appeared as a substitute in the 78th minute.
Charlton Athletic will next face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup second round, with hopes that Ouma will continue progressing towards first-team action.
About Collins Sichenje's Move
Collins Sichenje recently signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Charlton Athletic, transferring from Serbian club FK Vojvodina. His acquisition represents a strategic effort by Charlton to strengthen their defensive options amid a demanding season.
