Intense clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in southeastern Blue Nile State have forced over 5,000 residents to flee their homes, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.
The displaced populations have sought refuge in Damazin, facing dire humanitarian conditions characterized by severe shortages of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials. The Network highlighted that these shortages pose significant risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.
Humanitarian Concerns Amid Heavy Rains
The ongoing heavy rains in the Blue Nile region exacerbate the situation, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks and environmental hazards. The Sudan Doctors Network cautioned that the already limited resources and response capabilities are insufficient to meet the growing needs of the displaced communities.
Calls for Urgent Aid and Safe Access
- The Network urged the United Nations, humanitarian organizations, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to urgently provide essential aid, including food, clean water, medicines, and shelter materials.
- They emphasized the necessity of ensuring healthcare services and protection for displaced persons and called for the establishment of safe corridors to facilitate unhindered delivery of assistance.
Earlier, the Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative warned that military operations during adverse weather conditions pose a direct threat to civilians and demanded an immediate ceasefire to enable humanitarian access.
As the conflict continues, the situation remains fragile with the potential for further displacement and worsening health outcomes if swift intervention is not secured.
