Kenya Engages Ecuador Following Mt Ololokwe Helicopter Crash That Killed Intelligence Chief
Kenya has reached out to Ecuador after the death of its intelligence chief in a helicopter crash near Mt Ololokwe, pledging to conclude investigations and aid repatriation.
The Kenyan government has formally contacted Ecuador following the tragic helicopter crash near Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County that claimed the lives of Ecuador’s chief of intelligence, Michele Sensi-Contugi, and his wife, Stephany Maria Hollihan Vasconez de Sensi-Contugi.
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei conveyed Kenya’s condolences in a discussion with Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alejandro Davalos. PS Sing’Oei reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to completing the preliminary investigation swiftly and assisting with the retrieval and repatriation of the victims’ remains to ensure a dignified farewell.
"Kenya is dedicated to working around the clock to finalize the initial inquiries into the accident and to provide all necessary support for the repatriation process," said PS Sing’Oei. He extended Kenya’s solidarity to Ecuador, expressing hope that the memory of the late intelligence chief and his wife will offer comfort to their loved ones.
The crash occurred on Wednesday morning near the iconic Mt Ololokwe, a landmark known for its striking landscape. Besides the Ecuadorian couple, the accident also claimed the lives of four American tourists and the helicopter pilot.
Ongoing Investigation
The Air Accident Investigations Department (AAID) of Kenya is leading the probe with assistance from aviation experts from France and the United States. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days, while the final findings will be published within a year. The investigation aims to clarify the cause of the crash and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents.
