Earlier that day, Mutava was reportedly in good health and had attended a burial ceremony. However, his condition deteriorated suddenly later in the evening, prompting efforts to rush him to a hospital in Makindu. Unfortunately, he died before receiving medical treatment.
Mutava was married to Jessica Nduku Mbalu, the current Member of Parliament for Kibwezi East Constituency.
