The family of Rosemary Chemutai Koech, a senior executive at KCB Bank Group, has opened up about the difficulties she was experiencing prior to her sudden death at her home in Ngong, Kajiado County.
Relatives disclosed that Koech had been grappling with marital issues and financial pressures, which contributed to a stressful period before her passing. A caretaker at her residence revealed that family members had to force open her bedroom door after she failed to respond to calls and knocks.

Koech was highly respected for her expertise in data governance, digital rights, and technology policy. She was considered one of Kenya’s foremost advocates in these fields.
Okula Jack, a former colleague, praised her as a visionary and influential thought-leader who significantly shaped public policy discussions. He highlighted her contributions to key government digital initiatives including the Maisha Digital Superhighway, Maisha Namba, Maisha Card, Maisha Database programmes, and the eCitizen platform.
"Rosemary Chemutai Koech Kimwatu, Advocate, was a thought-leader in public policy, data governance & protection, technology and digital rights," Okula wrote. "Her brilliant voice resonated with force, cheerfulness and wit."
He also recalled their time together at the University of Nairobi's Parklands Campus and expressed deep sorrow over her untimely death, emphasizing the loss to both the legal and FinTech sectors.
The news of Koech’s passing has left friends, family, and the Kenyan digital community mourning the loss of a dedicated professional and advocate.
