Denmark Allows Foreign Workers to Bring Family Members Under Specific Conditions
Foreign workers in Denmark with valid permits can now bring spouses, partners, and children under 18, with exceptions for other relatives in rare cases.

The Danish government has confirmed that foreign nationals holding valid residence and work permits are eligible to bring certain family members to Denmark.
According to the Danish immigration authority, the family reunification permit applies to close relatives of foreign workers residing or relocating to Denmark for employment purposes. Eligible family members include:
- Spouses
- Registered partners
- Cohabiting partners
- Dependent children under 18 years old
In exceptional circumstances, other relatives outside these categories may also qualify for residence permits, though such cases are rare and handled on an individual basis.
Application Process
Family members can apply for residence permits simultaneously with the primary permit holder, often referred to as the "sponsor." The immigration authority advises submitting accompanying family applications promptly to ensure a smoother processing timeline.
For holders of the Danish green card, distinct guidelines apply, outlining specific requirements for family reunification under that scheme.
