UK Details Five Accepted Financial Proofs for Foreign Student Visa Applicants
The UK government recognises five financial sources for foreign students to prove funds when applying for a student visa, including loans, savings, and sponsorships.
The United Kingdom has clarified the acceptable financial documents foreign nationals must provide to meet the proof of funds requirement for a student visa.
Accepted Financial Sources
- Student loans: Official loans from recognised banks or government bodies qualify as valid proof.
- Financial sponsorship: Support from employers, governments, or organisations can be submitted as evidence.
- Personal savings: Funds held in the applicant's bank account for the required period are accepted.
- Parents' money: Applicants may use funds held by parents or legal guardians with proper relationship and access documentation.
- Partner's money: A spouse or partner's funds are valid if supported by relevant proof of relationship and access.
Important Documentation Notes
Each financial source demands specific supporting documents. For personal savings, bank statements covering the required duration are necessary. When funds come from a third party, applicants must provide evidence of relationship and access rights alongside financial records.
African students, including Kenyans, are advised to determine their applicable category early to avoid delays or visa rejections caused by incomplete documentation.
Excluded Financial Assets
The UK government has also ruled out certain assets as proof of funds, including cryptocurrency, stocks, pension funds, overdrafts, and some unregulated accounts.
