Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has expressed strong opposition to leaders who use Linda Mwananchi movement rallies to endorse politicians not affiliated with the initiative. Amisi emphasized that the movement was created to champion Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's political vision and should not be used for other endorsements.

In a statement released on Thursday, Amisi specifically criticized attempts to promote Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during Linda Mwananchi events. He pointed to the recent rally in Homa Bay County on August 16, 2026, where some leaders reportedly endorsed other politicians in Sifuna's presence, a practice Amisi described as contrary to the movement's original purpose.

Linda Mwananchi's Purpose and Political Direction

  • Amisi clarified that the phrase "Sisi ni Sifuna" represents a political idea, not just support for Sifuna as an individual.
  • He reiterated that while Kalonzo Musyoka could support Sifuna's presidential ambitions, the movement itself was not established to endorse Kalonzo.
  • Amisi warned against using the platform for political deals that deviate from its generational agenda for change.

He stated, "LM was not started to endorse Kalonzo. Kalonzo can, however, support Sifuna for the presidency. This I will fight for it till the end." He added that any other candidate would require a separate movement to carry their agenda.

Movement's Growing Influence and Challenges

Since its inception, Linda Mwananchi has evolved into a significant platform within opposition politics, with Sifuna as its leading figure. Other politicians involved include Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and Amisi himself.

The movement's expanding reach has attracted interest from politicians beyond its core group, prompting discussions about its potential role in a broader opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Calls for Unity and Strategic Support

Amisi's remarks come amid efforts by other movement members to build wider political alliances. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino recently called for consolidating support for Sifuna starting in Western Kenya, then extending to Nyanza, Kisii, Eastern, and Mt Kenya regions.

Owino also suggested engaging prominent figures such as former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to bolster Sifuna's presidential campaign.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the direction and control of Linda Mwananchi remain crucial as opposition leaders seek to unify and present a strong challenge to President William Ruto.
