The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has officially designated four types of identification cards as valid residence permits for foreign representatives operating in the country.
Categories of Recognised ID Cards
- Diplomatic ID card
- Consular ID card
- International organisations ID card
- Special ID card
Each card serves as legal documentation confirming residence status for eligible holders affiliated with foreign missions.
Usage and Regulations
The issuance of these cards requires a formal application to the relevant UAE ministry. Cardholders must present their ID cards at airports during entry and exit from the UAE. Additionally, when the holder permanently departs the country, the foreign mission is responsible for returning the card to the ministry.
Residency Permit Application Process
Foreign nationals seeking residency permits in the UAE follow a six-step procedure:
