FKF Condemns Violence, Calls for Accountability After Gor Mahia-Tusker Clash Chaos

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has strongly condemned the violence and disorder that erupted during the FKF Super Cup match between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC held at Nyayo National Stadium on August 23, 2026.

The match, which ended with Tusker defeating Gor Mahia 3-1, was marred by fans invading the pitch, damaging stadium property, and disrupting the trophy presentation ceremony. The ensuing chaos saw security personnel deploy tear gas to control the crowd, escalating tensions further.

Multiple reports and videos circulating online highlighted violent confrontations involving security officers, supporters, and journalists. Notably, allegations have surfaced about security officers firing tear gas directly into the crowd, using rubber bullets against fans, and pursuing supporters with firearms. FKF stated these claims are still under verification.

Journalists covering the event were not spared; some were reportedly forced by security officers to delete recorded footage. One video showed an officer slapping a well-known journalist who intervened during an altercation involving his colleagues. Additionally, there are disturbing reports of a female supporter being assaulted by an officer who allegedly kicked her in the neck.

FKF Response and Investigation

FKF emphasized that violence, property destruction, intimidation, and any acts endangering the safety of players, officials, fans, journalists, and security personnel are unacceptable.

The federation acknowledged the responsibility of security agencies to maintain order but stressed that crowd-control tactics must be applied with professionalism, restraint, and in line with legal standards.

FKF president Hussein Mohamed confirmed that the federation will thoroughly review match footage, officials’ reports, and stakeholder information to establish the facts and assign accountability. FKF insists that all parties involved—including fans, club officials, stewards, and security officers—will face appropriate disciplinary or legal action if found culpable.

The incidents have reignited debates about crowd control and the safety of fans and journalists at Kenyan football matches. FKF faces increased pressure to ensure its inquiry addresses both supporter misconduct and the alleged excessive force by security personnel.
