Two JKUAT Graduates Secure Fully Funded Postgraduate Scholarships in Japan

Two graduates from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) have been awarded fully funded postgraduate scholarships to study at Tokyo City University (TCU) in Japan. This opportunity underscores growing academic collaboration between the Kenyan institution and its Japanese counterpart.
Scholarship Details and Fields of Study
- Samwel Omenta, a Mechanical Engineering graduate, will pursue a Master's and Doctoral degree in Materials Engineering.
- Felix Ronoh, who holds a degree in Mechatronic Engineering, will specialise in Biomedical Engineering.
The scholarships span five years, covering both graduate and doctoral programmes, under a formal partnership agreement between JKUAT and TCU.
Expected Impact and Future Expansion
The two scholars are set to commence their studies in Tokyo in September. Beyond academic achievement, they are expected to acquire advanced research skills and practical expertise to contribute to JKUAT’s research and innovation initiatives upon their return.
The programme is planned to grow, with two more JKUAT students scheduled to join in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
JKUAT Leadership on the Partnership
Prof Bernard Ikua, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at JKUAT, hailed the collaboration as a prime example of successful international academic partnerships. He emphasized the benefits for student development, research, and innovation, expressing confidence that the scholars would enhance JKUAT’s academic environment and mentor future students.
