Mama Ida Odinga Backs Raila Junior’s Bid for Kibra Parliamentary Seat

Mama Ida Odinga has publicly endorsed her son, Raila Odinga Junior, as he vies for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

During celebrations marking her 76th birthday, Mama Ida acknowledged the support Raila Junior has received from Kibra residents, quoting their sentiment, “Mtoto wa simba ni simba” — a lion’s cub is a lion. She expressed her acceptance of the community’s choice and entrusted local leaders with the responsibility of guiding and mentoring her son through the political process.

She appealed to experienced leaders who have worked with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga since 1992 to assist Raila Junior in navigating the complexities of elective politics.

"I leave my child in your hands," she said, urging them to teach and support him.

Raila Junior has intensified his grassroots engagement across all five wards of Kibra, focusing on unity, development, and the constituency’s future. His mother encouraged him to pursue a campaign grounded in integrity, urging him to avoid insults, chaos, and violence.

"Run clean politics, not of insults, chaos or violence. Convince people with your words and what you can do for them," Mama Ida advised.

Raila Junior officially announced his parliamentary bid on August 3, emphasizing his commitment to organising the constituency ahead of the general election.
