Tensions Flare at Farouk Kibet’s Event Over Joel Wamalwa’s Political Involvement

Chaos unfolded at an event hosted by Farouk Kibet in Likuyani on August 21, 2026, after he publicly challenged Joel Wamalwa, CEO of the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency, over his political activities in the area.

Kibet accused Wamalwa and his team of attempting to disrupt the gathering and sow division among the women attendees. He warned them against such behaviour, emphasizing that it was unacceptable and would not be tolerated.

"Those youths who came with Joel, stop this bad behaviour. You cannot come here and break the unity among the women. That is bad manners and we will remove you immediately," Kibet declared.

The confrontation highlighted growing political tensions in Likuyani ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Wamalwa reportedly pursuing political ambitions locally.

Joel Wamalwa’s Role and Water Sector Focus

Joel Wamalwa heads the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency, a regional body responsible for managing water and sanitation infrastructure projects. The agency operates within a broader government framework aimed at expanding water services nationwide.

The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation has outlined a National Water and Sanitation Investment Plan estimated at Ksh995 billion. This plan prioritizes expanding access to water and sanitation, reducing water losses, and ensuring sustainable resource management, with significant investments planned for regions including Lake Victoria.

The incident at Kibet’s event underscores the intersection of developmental roles and political ambitions as local leaders and officials face increased scrutiny in the lead-up to the elections.
