Kenya Meteorological Department Forecasts Rain and Sunny Spells Across Multiple Counties This Sunday
Kenya Met forecasts showers in Rift Valley, Western, Coast and parts of Central; Nairobi to see light rain and sunny intervals on Sunday.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weather forecast for Sunday, August 23, predicting a mix of rainfall, cloudy periods, and sunshine across various regions of the country.
Rainfall Expected in 18 Counties
Showers are anticipated in 18 counties, including Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Bungoma, Nyandarua, Mombasa, Narok, Kisii, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, Kajiado, Kisumu, Nyamira, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu. This represents an expansion in the areas receiving rainfall compared to previous days.
Western and Central Kenya Weather Outlook
- Western Kenya is forecast to experience the heaviest rainfall, with counties such as Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, and Nyamira expecting light showers and thunderstorms from overnight into the afternoon.
- In Central Kenya, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang'a, and Kirinyaga, light showers are expected overnight and in the morning, followed by sunny intervals and occasional afternoon showers.
- Nairobi will have a daytime high of 26°C and an overnight low of 14°C.
- Nyandarua is projected to be the coldest county, with temperatures dropping to 9°C and afternoon showers.
Coast and Northern Counties Conditions
- Along the coast, Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi will see partly cloudy skies with light showers overnight and into Sunday morning before clearing to sunny intervals in the afternoon. Mombasa’s temperatures will range from 23°C to 29°C.
- In northeastern Kenya, Mandera is expected to be the hottest spot at 37°C, while Garissa and Wajir will reach highs of 34°C under mostly sunny skies.
Additional Weather Highlights
- Counties including Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Embu, Murang'a, Nyeri, Machakos, Makueni, Nairobi, Kajiado, and Laikipia will experience intermittent cool and cloudy conditions during the day.
- Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are forecast for Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kitui counties.
