Siaya County Delays July and August Salaries Over Budget Finalization

Siaya County government has announced a delay in the disbursement of salaries for July and August 2026, attributing the hold-up to the extended finalization of the 2026/2027 financial year budget.

In a circular issued on August 19, the Acting County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Elizabeth Adongo, explained that the delay in budget approval has hindered the full activation of the county's financial and expenditure systems necessary for salary payments.

County statement excerpt: "We regret to inform all staff of the delay in payment of July and August 2026 salaries due to the protracted completion of the FY 2026/2027 budget process, which has constrained the operationalisation of financial procedures."

The county anticipates concluding the budget process within the next two weeks, after which the pending salaries will be processed and paid. Meanwhile, staff have been urged to remain patient and continue their duties while the administration works to resolve the issue promptly.

The Chief of Staff emphasized that clearing salary arrears is a top priority and pledged swift action once budget approval is secured.

This development follows a similar delay in Nairobi City County, where July salary payments were postponed due to late budget approval and fund release.

Siaya Governor James Orengo, a long-standing ODM member, continues to oversee efforts to stabilize the county's financial operations amid these challenges.
