A Eurocopter EC130 B4 crashed at Lolokwe Mountain, Samburu, killing all seven on board. Investigation is ongoing into the cause of the fatal accident.

A helicopter crash at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu County claimed the lives of seven people on August 19, 2026. The Eurocopter EC130 B4, registered as 5Y-GYM, went down around 9:13 a.m. while flying from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the crash and fatalities, extending condolences to the victims' families. The aircraft was destroyed by the impact and a subsequent fire.

Crash Site and Recovery Efforts

Video footage from the scene shows extensive fire damage, with burnt debris scattered across the forested area near the crash site. Recovery operations involved local morans, Kenya Red Cross teams, and other first responders who navigated challenging terrain to reach the wreckage.

Investigation Underway

The Ministry of Roads and Transport's Air Accident Investigation Department is leading the probe into the cause of the crash. KCAA is coordinating with relevant agencies as the investigation progresses.

Located in northern Kenya, Lolokwe Mountain is a known tourist destination, characterized by its flat-topped peak.
