Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained social media personality Afolabi Kazeem Michael, widely known as KC Luxury, over alleged involvement in a major international drug trafficking ring.

The 49-year-old influencer was apprehended on August 13, 2026, at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris. Authorities suspect Michael masterminded the Nigerian operations of a cartel smuggling illicit substances from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia.

Largest Courier Drug Seizure in Nigeria

The arrest followed the interception of 184.5 kilograms of illegal drugs concealed in brown boxes at a Lagos courier facility on August 3. Valued at over KSh 3.6 billion (USD 28 million), this shipment was destined for export via the same courier service.

NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa described the haul as the largest ever recorded through a Nigerian courier company and ordered a Special Investigation Team to dismantle the trafficking network.

Investigation Uncovers Network

  • Initial probes identified Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a 33-year-old employee at the logistics firm, who allegedly collaborated closely with the cartel's Nigerian coordinator.
  • Kehinde is accused of packaging shipments and facilitating payments to route drugs abroad.
  • Further investigation linked Michael to the cartel’s Nigerian operations, with his public persona as a gold and luxury goods dealer believed to be a cover for illicit activities.

Arrest Details

Acting on intelligence that Michael intended to flee Nigeria, NDLEA agents arrested him at the airport boarding gate. At the time, he was found carrying over USD 12,840 in cash across multiple currencies and expensive jewelry.

Neither Michael nor Kehinde have made public statements or faced formal charges yet.
