Samburu Women Clergy Urge Youth to Reject Violence Ahead of 2027 Polls

Women clergy from Samburu County have issued a strong appeal to the government and youth to prevent violence and political unrest as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on August 24, 2026, the religious leaders emphasized the importance of peace and cautioned against youth involvement in goonism and chaotic acts that threaten stability.

Concerns Over Rising Violence

Pastor Mercy Ruto of Lighthouse Tabernacle International expressed deep concern over recent violent incidents, particularly their impact on women. She urged Kenyans to unite in prayer and avoid actions that could incite fear or instability during the election period.

Youth Called to Lead Peace Efforts

Clergy member Asikoye Everline appealed directly to young people, encouraging them to abstain from stirring unrest and to trust in the democratic process and divine guidance for leadership selection.

“Dear youths, I want to request all of us to avoid contributing to chaos in our country. Because God knows who will be our leaders,” she said, further urging prayers for the nation.

Rejecting Violence and Promoting Harmony

Silvanah Nashit added her voice, urging young men and women to firmly reject violence in the run-up to the elections. She called on the youth to become champions of peace and foster a culture of respectful political engagement within their communities.

“They should be at the forefront of preaching peace, so that we can have a peaceful election,” Nashit stated.

Peace Over Politics

The clergy collectively stressed that political disagreements must never escalate into violence and encouraged all Kenyans to resolve differences through dialogue and peaceful means.

Their call comes amid heightened political activities nationwide, with religious and community leaders advocating for responsible participation and peaceful campaigns as the nation approaches the 2027 polls.
