Rosemary Chemutai Koech Kimwatu, who led Data Protection at KCB Bank Group and served as a trustee for KICTANet, appeared in a recently surfaced video sharing her views on Kenya's evolving data governance landscape.
In the video, posted by KICTANet on Facebook, Rosemary spoke about the Kenya Data Governance Capacity Building and Engagement Workshop. She highlighted the country’s advancements in fostering a culture of data protection and expressed optimism about the workshop’s role in strengthening data governance skills nationwide.
Her dual role placed her at the crossroads of corporate responsibility and national policy, making her a notable figure in shaping Kenya’s approach to data privacy, rights, and digital governance. Her participation in the workshop underscored the importance of collaboration between sectors, including banking, regulation, and civil society.
Family Confirms Her Passing
Following the video’s circulation, Rosemary’s family announced her death in a heartfelt statement. They described the loss as profound and requested the public to keep her four children in their prayers during this difficult period.
"We thank God for the gift of her life, the love she shared, and the beautiful memories she leaves behind," the family said, asking for privacy as they come to terms with the loss. Funeral details are expected to be shared in due course.
