Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has concluded a 56-day nationwide consultation exercise aimed at gauging Kenyans' views on the country's political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The consultations, held at his Wamunyoro residence, involved discussions on the current state of the nation and citizens' expectations moving forward. Gachagua announced that the final consultation session would take place with residents of Mt Kenya North from Isiolo, followed by a dedicated meeting with young people, particularly those from Generation Z.

He stated that after these engagements, he would hold a press conference to share insights gathered during the consultations and outline the next steps for the nation.

Engagement with Youth and Diaspora

  • Gachagua emphasized the importance of listening to the youth, noting that Gen Z participants would attend in large numbers.
  • He plans to leverage these discussions to shape his political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
  • Following the consultations, Gachagua intends to travel to Nairobi before departing for the United States with his wife, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua.

The US trip will include engagements with African and Western communities and provide him an opportunity to make critical decisions away from local pressures and influences.

"There are things that I am planning and that cannot be done from the country. When I am around the country, there is a lot of influence from people. I want to make some decisions without undue influence from the people I’m around," Gachagua explained.

He further revealed his intention to rally support among the Kenyan diaspora to strengthen his presidential bid, aiming to build momentum to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming election.
