Ndindi Nyoro’s People’s Party of Kenya Welcomes 28 New Political Leaders
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro expands People’s Party of Kenya with 28 new leaders ahead of 2027 elections, emphasizing opposition unity and presidential ambitions.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced the induction of 28 sitting, former, and aspiring leaders into the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), signaling the party’s growing influence nationwide. The announcement came shortly after Nyoro assumed leadership of PPK and aligned the party with the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement posted on X on August 20, 2026, Nyoro welcomed the newcomers, many of whom hail from Murang’a and Kiambu counties. The group includes Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), parliamentary aspirants, and other political figures such as:
- Galgalo Richard, MCA aspirant for Sololo Ward, Marsabit County
- Mahad Abdi, MP aspirant for Mandera West
- Dr Moses Maraka, MCA aspirant for Chevaywa Ward, Kakamega County
- Naomi Gakenia, MP aspirant for Gatanga
- Anthony M. Maina, MP aspirant for Mathioya
- Charles Kahoro, MCA aspirant for Kangari Ward, Murang’a
Other new members include sitting MCAs Naomi Maina (Ruchu Ward, Murang’a) and Zacharia Macharia (Kiuu Ward, Kiambu), among others.
Nyoro’s 2027 Presidential Bid and Call for Opposition Unity
Having previously served as chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee, Nyoro left the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join PPK and position himself for the presidency in 2027. Although a former supporter of the Kenya Kwanza coalition, he has since shifted to the opposition camp.
Nyoro has urged opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate by August 2027 to prevent vote fragmentation. He expressed readiness to collaborate with key opposition figures, including Justin Muturi, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Edwin Sifuna, inviting them to joint meetings to foster trust and cohesion.
Highlighting his development record in Kiharu, Nyoro appealed to voters seeking effective leadership, emphasizing near-free schooling in his constituency as an example. He also plans to revisit areas where he campaigned for President William Ruto in 2022, such as Wajir and Mombasa, aiming to challenge the ruling party’s presence.
While Nyoro pursues his presidential ambitions, he remains open to supporting a consensus opposition candidate if unity is achieved.
