Ndindi Nyoro Highlights PPK's 30-Year History as He Takes Party Helm

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has disclosed that the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), which he recently assumed leadership of, has been active since 1996. This makes PPK older than the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the party he left.

During an interview with Kameme FM on August 24, 2026, Nyoro emphasized that PPK is not a newly formed political outfit designed solely for his ambitions but a party with a long-standing history.

Origins and Leadership Transition

Nyoro traced the party’s origins to Harun Waweru, who founded PPK decades ago. He explained that the party officially came under his leadership in 2024 after structural and leadership changes were implemented under then-chairman Jacob Gitau.

He further noted that Gitau remains politically active in Kenya as a leader within the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), led by former Justice Minister Martha Karua. John Kihiko, the former secretary-general, also played a role in transferring the party to Nyoro’s camp.

Growing Political Appeal

The MP highlighted a rising number of politicians joining PPK, interpreting this as a sign of confidence in the party’s ability to advance shared political goals.
