Early Life and Basketball Roots

Maria grew up in a Filipino-American household after immigrating to the United States at age seven. She played Division 1 college basketball as a point guard at the University of New Orleans from 1993 to 1996. Known for her scrappy defense and team-oriented play, she transitioned into coaching after college.

Family and Coaching Career

Maria married NBA legend Ron Harper Sr. in 2005, with whom she has three children: Ron Jr., Dylan, and Mia. Though the couple divorced in 2012, Maria continued to coach and mentor her sons. She served as head girls’ basketball coach at DePaul Catholic High School and later as an assistant coach for the boys’ varsity team at Don Bosco Preparatory High School in New Jersey.
