The Linda Mwananchi movement has raised concerns over alleged attempts by certain Nyanza political figures to sabotage their upcoming rally in Homa Bay.
Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, speaking on behalf of the movement, claimed that secret meetings are underway to mobilise and arm goons to disrupt the event scheduled for Sunday.
Omondi detailed the purported strategies, stating:
- Goons would disguise themselves under the pretext of a voter registration exercise near Kabunde Airport to block access.
- Bridges leading to Homa Bay town are planned to be obstructed.
- Goons are expected to camp at the hotel hosting the movement's members the night before the rally.
The movement has reportedly shared audio evidence of these plans with security agencies and called upon Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to intervene and guarantee the safety of attendees.
"The IG is aware as we have provided him with the recordings of the planned disruptions. We urge him to ensure the rally proceeds peacefully and that the lives of the people of Homa Bay are protected," Omondi emphasized.
Concerns about political intolerance in the region were also voiced. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino lamented the hostile environment, saying, "In Nyanza, we are being hunted like wild animals. People of Homa Bay, turn out in large numbers. We are coming."
Siaya Governor James Orengo, addressing the matter from Kisumu, pledged support for the rally's security, stating, "If the police cannot protect those attending, we are prepared to ensure their safety."
The rally is expected to unite Linda Mwananchi supporters and political figures as the movement seeks to expand its influence nationally.
