Khalwale Endorses Edwin Sifuna, Urges Kakamega to Deliver Votes in 2027
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale backs Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for president, calling on Kakamega to unite its million votes behind him in 2027.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has voiced strong support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's anticipated 2027 presidential bid, urging voters in Kakamega County to consolidate their support behind him.
Speaking during the burial of his wife, Gloria Sekeyian Khalwale, held at Malinya Stadium in Ikolomani constituency, Khalwale hailed Sifuna's growing political stature and declared him the next president.
Addressing the crowd in his native language, Khalwale implored the people of Kakamega to cast their combined votes—estimated at one million—for Sifuna. He expressed confidence that this unified backing would send a clear message to President William Ruto ahead of the elections.
Sifuna, who attended the ceremony, was warmly received by mourners and supporters as he entered the venue. Khalwale assured attendees that Sifuna would have an opportunity to address them in due course.
Originally elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in 2022, Khalwale has since joined the Linda Mwananchi movement led by Sifuna and has become a prominent advocate within opposition circles.
Following the passing of former ODM leader Raila Odinga, Sifuna broke away from ODM and has positioned Linda Mwananchi as his political platform. His presidential ambitions have gained traction among youth groups and regional allies, with opposition figures rallying behind him to challenge the incumbent president.
Khalwale also called on religious leaders present to pray for Sifuna's safety, highlighting the serious security challenges expected as Kenya approaches the 2027 general elections.
Gloria Sekeyian Khalwale, the senator's third wife, passed away suddenly on August 15 after collapsing at home. Her body was brought from Mukumu Funeral Home for a vigil before the burial on August 21.
