Kenya marked a milestone in its fitness community by hosting the inaugural full HYROX-style race, the FIRSTROX Experience, at The Waterfront in Karen. The event drew 140 athletes, surpassing the organisers’ initial target of 100 participants.

Organised by FirstPower Fitness in collaboration with Nyumbani Fitness, the competition combined running and functional fitness exercises modeled after international HYROX events. Competitors completed an eight-kilometre run segmented into eight one-kilometre stretches, each followed by a distinct workout station.

Kevin, founder of Nyumbani Fitness, expressed enthusiasm over the turnout and interest. He emphasized the event’s role in nurturing Kenya’s fitness culture and providing a platform for local athletes to compete on the global HYROX and CrossFit stages.

“We want to see our athletes winning HYROX races overseas and making an impact in international CrossFit competitions,” he said. The positive reception has encouraged plans to host up to three more HYROX-style races next year.

Beyond competition, organisers aim to promote widespread physical activity across Kenya. “We want to create a platform for people to move. We need to get people moving as a country,” Kevin added.

The successful debut signals a growing base of Kenyan athletes prepared for the rigours of hybrid fitness events, reflecting increased local enthusiasm for such challenges.
