Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has proposed former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa for the position of deputy party leader. Kalonzo highlighted Jumwa's extensive political experience and national prominence as key factors for her nomination.
Speaking in Kwale County, Kalonzo described Jumwa as a respected and formidable figure whose inclusion in Wiper would enhance the party's influence, particularly in the Coast region. He emphasized that no other party has offered Jumwa a comparable senior leadership role.
"She is a formidable woman who commands respect across the country. When she stands with Wiper Patriotic Front, Kalonzo is respected. I want to propose that she becomes the Deputy Party Leader of Wiper Patriotic Front," Kalonzo said. He noted that the formal appointment will follow party deliberations.
Jumwa recently exited the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing frustration and humiliation over her attempt to vie for Kilifi County governor in the 2027 General Election. Her move to Wiper and proposed leadership role aligns with the party’s strategy to strengthen its foothold on the Coast ahead of the polls.
The proposal comes shortly after Kalonzo named Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as another deputy party leader, aiming to integrate Coast representation and youth leadership into Wiper’s top structure. Additionally, former Cabinet Minister Jamleck Irungu Kamau was appointed party chairman, and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru became the party’s first spokesperson.
Jumwa's appointment awaits approval from Wiper’s relevant party organs before being officially confirmed.
