Johana Ng’eno’s Mother Welcomes Rigathi Gachagua in Heartfelt Video Call
The late MP Johana Ng’eno’s mother warmly welcomed former DP Rigathi Gachagua during a recent video call, sparking public attention and mixed reactions.
A touching video has emerged showing the elderly mother of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno warmly welcoming former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua via a video call.
In the clip, a family member holds a smartphone displaying a video chat labelled “DP” as Gachagua greets the elderly woman affectionately, calling her “mama” and expressing happiness at finally meeting her. The woman responds with warmth, inviting him to visit her home, while other relatives look on in a modest family setting.
Remembering Johana Ng’eno
Johana Ng’eno served as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr in Narok County for three consecutive terms from 2013 until his untimely death. Known for his vocal stance on land rights and local development, Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, alongside five others, leaving a void in his constituency.
Public Reaction and Political Context
The video has drawn significant attention online, with some Kenyans expressing concern over the timing and intent behind Gachagua’s outreach. Critics have cautioned against politicising the grieving family’s moment, especially given Gachagua’s recent impeachment as Deputy President.
Following Ng’eno’s death, the Emurua Dikirr by-election was won by a candidate from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), indicating the ruling party’s continued influence in the area despite national political shifts.
