At least 30 people have died after a large pile of rubbish collapsed onto nearby homes in Conakry, the capital of Guinea. The incident occurred in the Dar-es-Salam neighborhood following heavy overnight rains.
In addition to the fatalities, 22 individuals sustained injuries, six of them seriously. Rescue teams, supported by military personnel, have been deployed to search for survivors amid fears that the death toll may rise.
Witnesses reported harrowing losses, including a woman who said she lost all five of her children in the tragedy. Excavators were seen clearing debris as residents gathered near the site.
Guinea's Prime Minister, Mamadou Oury Bah, visited the scene to oversee search and rescue operations. Local leaders expressed concern over the scale of the disaster, recalling a similar landslide at the same site in 2017 that killed 10 people.
