Gachagua to Host Youth Convention as 55-Day Political Conclave Wraps Up

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is set to hold a youth convention at his Wamunyoro residence on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. This event marks the conclusion of his extensive 55-day political conclave, initially planned for 45 days but later extended.

The DCP Youth League leader, Wanjiku Thiga, announced that she will lead young delegates to engage directly with Gachagua at his political command centre. This final meeting aims to gather youth perspectives ahead of the 2027 General Election and will precede the release of a detailed report on the consultations and resolutions reached during the conclave.

Political Tour and Youth Outreach

Over the course of the conclave, Gachagua met with various demographic groups, focusing now on the youth vote as a key pillar for the DCP's election strategy. He has pledged favourable nomination conditions for young aspirants, including waivers and reductions on nomination fees, as well as opportunities for those active in promoting the party on social media.

The youth convention is expected to solidify Gachagua's appeal among young voters, particularly Generation Z, as he positions the DCP for the upcoming elections.

Upcoming Travel and Political Campaigns

• Gachagua plans to travel to the United States on Wednesday, August 26, following a visit to Kikuyu Constituency.
• He has cited internal team conflicts as a reason for seeking time abroad to make independent decisions regarding his political future and party direction.
• During his conclave, Gachagua launched a political offensive targeting leaders perceived to have undermined the DCP during the Ol Kalou by-election, including MPs Kwenya Thuku, Mwangi Kiunjuri, Eric Wamumbi, John Kawanjiku, and leaders like Murang’a Woman Rep Betty Maina and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
• His campaign tour also extended to Embu County, where he criticized Governor Cecil Mbarire for her role in UDA campaigns.
