EACC Detains Two Police Officers for Alleged Sh100,000 Bribe in Bombolulu, Mombasa
Two police officers were arrested by EACC in Mombasa for allegedly demanding Sh100,000 over an unlawful electricity connection claim.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended two police officers in Mombasa on accusations of soliciting a Sh100,000 bribe from a Bombolulu resident.
The officers, Inspector Benjamin Ochieng and Corporal Said Bakari, both attached to the Kenya Power Coast Regional Office, allegedly confronted the resident over an unlawful electricity connection claim. They reportedly demanded the money to halt further investigations and avoid legal action.
Following a report to the EACC, investigators launched an operation on August 24, 2026, to verify the bribery claim. During the operation, the officers accompanied the complainant to a bank on Moi Avenue, where they allegedly received Sh50,000—the first installment of the demanded bribe—near DTB Bank.
Subsequently, the officers were arrested and taken to Central Police Station for booking. They were later released on a cash bail of Sh30,000 each pending further investigations.
The EACC is continuing to examine the details surrounding the alleged illegal electricity connection, the bribery demand, and the circumstances of the partial payment. The commission emphasized that public officials must act with integrity and accountability while performing their duties.
Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
