DCP Leader Gachagua Urges Mt Kenya Voters to Exercise Freedom in 2027 Polls
Rigathi Gachagua calls on Mt Kenya residents to choose leaders freely and warns of political deception ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned voters in the Mt Kenya region to expect political deception ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speaking at a church service in Karatina, Nyeri County, on Sunday, Gachagua highlighted that both politicians and voters may make promises they do not keep.
"This coming year is known as the 'year of hyenas'. Politicians will deceive citizens with promises, and voters will also mislead by pledging votes they may not deliver. It is a year of deceit," he remarked.
Free and Fair Nominations
Gachagua emphasized the importance of free and fair nomination processes, urging residents of Mathira and Nyeri to freely select their preferred candidates. He pledged to support whoever emerges from transparent nominations, underscoring the need for voters to determine their leaders without external imposition.
"We will have free and fair nominations. You choose one candidate and give me their name. What else do you expect me to do? You know me," he stated.
Political Engagements and Future Plans
Acknowledging past mistakes in backing political candidates, Gachagua promised to respect voters' choices going forward. His recent political activities include a grassroots tour in Kirinyaga County, covering areas such as Kiangagana, Kiangombe, and Rurui shopping centers.
His engagements follow the recent defection of former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici to the DCP, signaling heightened political activity in the region. Gachagua is also scheduled to embark on a diaspora tour in the United States starting August 26.
