Ndindi Nyoro Urges Respect for Former President Uhuru Amid Political Tensions
Ndindi Nyoro calls on Kenya Kwanza to respect former President Uhuru Kenyatta and condemns political violence ahead of 2027 elections.
People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has called on the Kenya Kwanza administration to stop the ongoing campaign of insults targeting former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking during a meet-the-people tour in Murang’a, Nyoro emphasized that Uhuru deserves dignity and respect regardless of his political stance.
Nyoro condemned the use of hired individuals to verbally attack Uhuru at political rallies, urging President William Ruto to publicly address any grievances he may have with the retired leader. He stressed that Uhuru remains an influential political figure and should not be unfairly targeted simply for leaving office.
Highlighting the need to move past the divisive politics of the 2022 election, Nyoro questioned why Uhuru continues to be a focal point of political attacks years later. He reminded Ruto that the presidency is temporary and urged him to treat former leaders with the respect he would expect upon retirement.
Nyoro also raised concerns about rising political violence, particularly incidents involving armed groups disrupting rallies, such as the recent attack in Homa Bay. He criticized Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and security officials for inconsistent statements regarding the presence of violent elements at political events.
He called for accountability from security agencies to end the culture of intimidation and violence at political gatherings, asserting that the government has a constitutional duty to protect all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
Since its launch, PPK has been gaining traction, attracting new members including Murang’a County Assembly Speaker Johnson Mukuha. Nyoro highlighted his achievements in Kiharu, including subsidized education and improved classroom facilities, as evidence of his commitment to development.
As the 2027 general elections approach, Nyoro reiterated PPK’s rejection of politics based on insults and violence, and expressed the party’s intention to collaborate with other political forces to build a broad opposition alliance.
