An Eldoret court has approved a 14-day detention extension for five individuals, including a couple, in connection with the murder of a hotel manager in Uasin Gishu County.
The suspects were apprehended after police traced them to a homestead in Kipkorgot, Ainabkoi Sub-County, where investigators believe the victim was assaulted prior to his death.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of August 6, 2026. The victim's body was found the following morning near Kipkorgot Centre, close to his white Toyota Axio, which was parked about 150 metres away along the Eldoret-Kaptagat road.
Detectives discovered bloodstains on the veranda of the homestead, which is suspected to be the crime scene. They believe the victim was attacked there before his body was moved to the location where it was found.
Investigating Officer Eric Ruto requested the additional detention period to recover the suspected murder weapon, arrest any other suspects, and gather witness statements. The investigation also includes obtaining communication data, conducting forensic analysis of blood samples, and assessing the mental state of the suspects.
Police are exploring potential motives, including a personal dispute and a possible love-triangle, though no definitive motive has been established yet.
The court scheduled a follow-up hearing for August 25, 2026, to review progress and provide further directives as detectives continue their inquiries into the hotel manager's final hours.
