Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has announced his intention to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections, with plans to serve a single term before pursuing the presidency in 2032.
During a recent radio interview, Owino emphasized that five years as governor would be sufficient to implement transformative changes in the capital and build a strong foundation for his presidential ambitions.
Owino stated:
- "I have already told you we have sat as leaders, and I have told them we are all leaders here. Do one term, as I also do one term as governor, then we look for the president. I personally will go for the presidency in 2032."
He expressed strong confidence in his ability to secure the Nairobi governor seat, dismissing potential rivals as non-serious contenders.
He remarked:
- "There is no one who can defeat me for the governor’s seat in Nairobi. There is none for 2027. Someone who will defeat me for the governor’s seat in 2027 has not yet been born. Get used to your governor early."
Owino highlighted his track record as Embakasi East MP, noting that no audit has implicated him in misappropriation of public funds. He pointed to his oversight of 88 road completions and the procurement of school buses for local schools as examples of effective leadership.
He also cited his recognition as one of the best-performing MPs on multiple occasions as evidence of his capability to govern Nairobi.
