Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary-General John Methu has accused Nakuru County police of deliberately standing aside while opposition supporters were attacked by goons during political events on Friday.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Methu claimed that police officers were instructed by Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Boit not to intervene as groups targeted DCP members traveling to political meetings within the county.
He further alleged that a police Land Cruiser was stationed approximately 150 metres from the attack site, yet officers did not take action. Methu also implicated officers at the Central Police Station, suggesting they were similarly directed to avoid interfering with the violence.
According to Methu, these attacks were orchestrated and funded by political actors aiming to disrupt the party’s mobilisation efforts in Nakuru. He criticized Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for not addressing the rising political violence affecting opposition groups.
