Ruth Nabasiruka, a 60-year-old woman from Wantayi Village, Uganda, is in police custody following the discovery of human remains at her residence. She has shared an unusual explanation for her actions, linking them to a dream she experienced amid her children's prolonged illnesses.
Dream Inspires Unconventional Healing Attempt
Nabasiruka recounted that after exhausting all options to cure her ailing children, she was visited in a dream by a mysterious figure. This stranger instructed her to exhume her grandson's bones from his grave and keep them at home, promising it would aid her children's recovery.
Believing in the dream's message, she followed through, removing the remains and bringing them into her house. She claims that following this, her children's health improved and their illnesses subsided.
Community Reaction and Police Intervention
Despite the health improvements, local villagers grew suspicious, labeling Nabasiruka a witch due to the presence of the human remains. She denies any involvement in witchcraft, asserting her sole motivation was her children's wellbeing.
The remains were uncovered during a police operation initially targeting a stolen motorbike. Officers found skulls, bones, shrines, bark cloth, and mattresses in Nabasiruka's home. Alongside her, her 35-year-old daughter and other suspects were arrested.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities continue to investigate the origins of the human remains and the circumstances surrounding their removal from graves. Nabasiruka and the others remain detained at Mukono District Police Station as inquiries proceed.
