Ruth Nabasiruka, a 60-year-old woman from Mukono, Uganda, was detained alongside her daughter and two others after police discovered human remains in her residence in Wantayi Village.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police revealed the remains were uncovered during a search linked to a stolen motorbike investigation. Officers found skulls, bones, shrines, bark cloths, and mattresses inside the house.
Curious locals gathered as police also identified several graves on the property, some showing signs of recent exhumation and being resealed with fresh cement.
Explanation from Nabasiruka
Nabasiruka admitted to exhuming and keeping the bones but denied any harmful intent. She said the remains were used for traditional Kiganda healing rituals to treat her children.
Family Allegations
- Her son, Charles Male, accused her of practicing witchcraft and forcing relatives out of their father's home.
- He claimed the family house had been converted into a shrine for rituals.
- Male also mentioned that Nabasiruka kept cats named after deceased family members.
