The United Arab Emirates government has outlined the conditions foreigners must satisfy to sponsor family members for residency permits linked to Emirates IDs.
Eligibility and Documentation
- Passport Validity: Sponsored family members must have passports valid for at least six months when applying.
- Eligible Family Members: Foreign residents can sponsor spouses, unmarried daughters, sons under 25, and children with special needs. UAE Green Residence Permit holders may also sponsor first-degree relatives beyond the immediate family.
- Sponsor Residency: Sponsors must hold a valid UAE residency permit, with sponsored family permits not exceeding the sponsor's permit duration.
Financial and Housing Requirements
- Income Thresholds: Sponsors earning a minimum of AED 3,000 per month qualify if employer-provided accommodation is included. Without housing, the minimum income rises to AED 4,000 monthly.
- Housing Standards: Adequate housing must be secured to comfortably accommodate all family members, whether owned or rented.
Important Processing Deadline
Once a family member arrives in the UAE to complete residency formalities, the permit must be finalized within 60 days. Failure to meet this deadline results in fines for overstaying, complicating the application process.
These requirements provide a structured pathway for foreign nationals, including Kenyans and other Africans working in the UAE, to reunite with their families under clear and achievable conditions.
