Two suspects connected to the fatal shooting of 61-year-old businessman Nathan Masai Wasama in Cheptais, Bungoma County, have surrendered to police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed.
The newly surrendered suspects, Robert Kimutai Psisei, also known as Robert Miti, and Brian Chongin Kaos, turned themselves in at Cheptais and Chwele Police Stations respectively, and are now in custody as investigations continue.
These developments bring the total number of suspects apprehended in connection with Wasama's death to five.
Incident Details
Wasama was shot dead on the night of August 8, 2026, at his shop located in Tuikut Trading Centre, Sasur Location, Cheptais Sub-County. According to preliminary investigations, four men arrived on two motorcycles, with one pillion passenger entering Wasama's shop and shooting him before fleeing with the others.
A woman was also injured during the attack and remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Police Operations
Earlier, detectives raided a residence in Marigo Village, Cheptais Location, resulting in the arrest of three other suspects. The raid uncovered various items including:
- A military-style smoke jacket
- A stun grenade
- Axes and crowbars
- Folding pangas, knives, and arrows
- Three motorcycles
- Mobile phones and an iPod
Authorities stated that all suspects will be arraigned once investigations conclude.
