Two former state employees have been formally charged at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly forging academic certificates to obtain employment in public institutions.
The accused are John Murira Mwicigi, previously a Security Supervisor at Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC), and Kevine Agweyo Okullo, a former technician at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH). Both denied the charges during their arraignment.
Details of the Charges
- John Murira Mwicigi is accused of presenting a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, which falsely indicated attendance at Githaiga Secondary School. Investigations revealed he was never enrolled there. Using this forged certificate, Mwicigi secured employment at NCWSC and earned approximately Ksh 15.86 million between 2007 and December 2023.
- Kevine Agweyo Okullo allegedly submitted a forged Refrigeration Grade II Trade Test certificate issued by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) when applying for a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician role at KUTRRH.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) forwarded their findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved prosecution.
Bail Conditions
Both suspects were released on bail set at Ksh 100,000 cash or a bond of Ksh 1 million with a surety of the same amount as their cases proceed.
