At least two people lost their lives in a serious traffic accident on Riverside Drive in Westlands, Nairobi, on the morning of Monday, August 17, 2025.
The crash involved a Range Rover that was reportedly speeding and making dangerous overtaking maneuvers before colliding with a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses informed road safety group Sikika Road Safety that the vehicle lost control and rolled several times, sustaining significant damage.
Preliminary reports confirm that both the boda boda rider and the Range Rover driver died at the scene. The vehicle was carrying foreign nationals who were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The incident occurred opposite Chandarana Supermarket along Riverside Drive. Sikika Road Safety shared an update stating:
- "The Range Rover was driven at high speed, overtaking recklessly, which led to loss of control and collision with a boda boda rider."
- "Both the rider and driver died instantly."
- "Foreign nationals inside the vehicle were taken to hospital."
No official statements have been released by the National Police Service or the National Transport and Safety Authority as investigations continue. The identities of the deceased remain unconfirmed, and excessive speed alongside hazardous overtaking appear to be key factors in the crash.
