Mellon Laibich, who studied Biomedical and Health Sciences at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), has successfully completed the United States Army Basic Combat Training. She described the experience as both challenging and transformative.
In a heartfelt Facebook post dated August 13, 2026, Laibich detailed the physical exhaustion, emotional strain, and moments of doubt she faced during the rigorous training. She attributed her perseverance to her strong faith and the unwavering support of her family both in Kenya and the US.
Support System Key to Success
Laibich highlighted the crucial role played by her sister, Rabecca Laibich, who resides in the US. Weekly phone calls, prayers, and letters from Rabecca provided essential encouragement throughout the training. She also expressed gratitude towards her parents and siblings in Kenya, whose messages and prayers helped bridge the distance.
Additionally, Laibich acknowledged two friends serving in the US military—Marich K Kip of the US Navy and Boreh Tony of the US Army—as fellow companions on demanding military journeys.
Lessons from Military Training
Reflecting on her journey, Laibich revealed that the training uncovered inner strengths she had not previously recognized. She emphasized that completing the programme was more than an achievement; it was a testament to resilience and determination under pressure.
She wrote, "I learned that sometimes strength is simply choosing to keep going when everything in you says you can't."
Laibich concluded her announcement by embracing her new role as a US Army soldier, signing off with, "Grace carried me! I am ready for this chapter."
