The National Treasury is set to introduce the Development Partners Management Information System (DPMIS), a platform designed to consolidate and monitor development partner funding flowing into Kenya.
Scheduled for launch before the end of 2026, DPMIS will provide a comprehensive overview of external development resources by detailing commitments, allocations, and disbursements. The system aims to improve transparency and coordination by showing which partners are funding specific programmes and where resources are directed.
Enhancing Coordination and Data Quality
DPMIS is expected to address current challenges in tracking development partner contributions, enabling government agencies to access reliable, up-to-date data for planning and oversight. The platform will help identify overlapping support among partners, reducing duplication and enhancing efficiency.
During a recent meeting led by Principal Secretary Dr Chris Kiptoo, officials were urged to prioritise data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness to maximise the system’s effectiveness. Strengthening institutional processes for timely reporting and validation of information was also emphasised.
Implications for Kenya’s Development Agenda
- DPMIS will offer a consolidated view of external financing aligned with national priorities.
- Improved oversight of commitments and disbursements will assist policymakers in assessing development partner impact.
- The system aims to transform raw data into actionable insights for better planning and decision-making.
The Treasury envisions DPMIS as a vital tool to streamline coordination among multiple development partners and government institutions, ensuring that external funds effectively contribute to Kenya’s development goals.
