Train Collides with PSV Bus in Githurai, No Serious Injuries Reported

On the evening of August 21, 2026, a train traveling the Nairobi Central Station-Ruiru route collided with a PSV bus in Githurai, Nairobi, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles and nearby property.

The incident occurred around 6:30 pm when the bus, operated by Githurai 45 SACCO and en route from Nairobi CBD to Githurai, attempted to cross the railway tracks at speed. CCTV footage shows the train striking the driver’s side of the bus before it could clear the crossing.

The force of the collision pushed the bus along the tracks, dragging a parked vehicle and damaging a nearby structure before the train came to a halt. Debris scattered across the vicinity affected other vehicles, while dust and smoke briefly enveloped the area, causing panic among bystanders who fled the scene.

Witnesses reported that the bus driver quickly exited the vehicle after the crash. Fortunately, no fatalities or serious injuries have been confirmed.

This event follows a recent pattern of railway incidents, including a partial derailment of a Nairobi-Nyahururu passenger train at Ol Kalou Railway Station earlier this month.

Kenya Railways continues to emphasize the importance of safety near railway crossings, urging the public to use authorized points and avoid attempting to outrun trains.
